I believe that in order to achieve to the best of their ability, students need a open, safe and warm environment.  Students have a vast range of needs and by providing a variety of spaces and modifications each and every student has an opportunity to achieve. As well, at desk modifications such as under desk peddlers, standup desks, wobble chairs, rocking chairs, ect., help students who might find sitting in a desk challenging. I strive to build an environment with a strong philosophy of education affirming that every student can learn and be successful with the right tools.

Relationships with Students

Fostering relationships are an essential aspect to a successful classroom. Classroom expectations of fairness, respect, integrity and kindness must be set immediately however, classroom management strategies may change throughout the year based on the class. I want students to feel they are an integral part of our learning community and work with them so they have a say in their learning. I build a strong learning community through:

  • Student involvement in the expectation and norm building process

  • Positive reinforcement

  • Modelling of respectful behaviours

  • Celebrations of kindness

  • Team building

  • Fair and consistent expectations

  • Consistent communication with the students

  • Modifications based on students needs

Relationships with Community

Fostering relationships with parents and families, community members, and the school community help build a classroom atmosphere that is optimal for learning.  I build relationships with parents by:

  • Communicating with parents and families  through weekly updates on the classroom blog, regular posts on twitter and one-one-one communications.

  • Open communication with peers seeking advice and support when needed and giving the same support in return.
